Waterfall Springs Retreat & Wildlife Sanctuary is a romantic luxury escape and a sanctuary dedicated to rehabilitating wallabies and kangaroos. Located an hour and a half from Sydney in the Central Coast, about 30 minutes from Gosford, lies this beautiful adults only relaxing retreat. Set in Kulnura, it offers luxury boutique styled accommodation with barbecue facilities, a garden, a pool and a shared lounge. Waterfall Springs Retreat and Wildlife Sanctuary is nestled amongst 33 acres of serene and quintessentially Australian bushland and the property’s name is derived from the four waterfalls that are on the bush track surrounding it.
The retreat can host up to four couples at a time. Aside from the glamping tent they property has two suites and one apartment. Each suite opens up to the outdoors with garden views from the freestanding bathtubs big enough for two and has a gas fire to add to the cosy atmosphere. A gas log fire place in every suite only adds to the ambience of each room. The bedding and linen is of the highest quality and so comfortable. I had the best nights sleep since leaving the Irish countryside several years ago. The only think we could hear at night and in the morning were the crickets. One of the unique features of the retreat are the wildlife throughout the property. They are dedicated to restoring the endangered wallabies population and also also rehabilitate other species of kangaroo and wallabies, which you can interact with. These are just some of the experiences offered here at Waterfall Springs Retreat and Wildlife Sanctuary. They offer a number of tours such as glow worm tours and wine tours to the nearby Hunter Valley.
We stayed in the glamping tent and it is by far the most luxurious tent I’ve ever seen. It is more of a cabin but it has soft canvas walls, a bell ceiling and zip up windows with permanent fly nets. The large glass double doors open onto a beautiful decking with a bbq, fridge, dishwasher, sink and table and chairs. My favourite parts of the tent was the free standing bathtub and the rustic shower on granite tiles and surrounded by smaller stones making you feel like you are outside. The tent is so spacious, has a TV with Netflix, Stan, and Foxtel, wifi and comes with cooking utensils, cutlery and cupboard essentials such as butter, milk and oil.
The free standing bath tub comfortably fits two and looks out to the wallaby enclosures. We had a perfect evening enjoying a glass of wine in the bath watching the wallabies and then got into the fluffiest robes and relaxed by the fire. The tents have a fire which is perfect to warm up by in the winter and are also fitted with AC for those warmer summer months.
Steve and Alanna have done an impeccable job designing the tent and have thought of absolutely everything from marshmallows to toast by the open fire outside, to picnic blankets and board games to a hidden wardrobe behind the king sized bed.
A generous supply of eggs, sausages, bacon, fruit, cereal and toast are provided along with tea and coffee to make breakfast during your stay.
The glamping tent is totally private and separate from the main house and reception, but still only a few hundred meters from the outdoor pool, wildlife sanctuary and the bushland track. The property is surrounded by an enchanted track that is 4 km in total encompassing waterfalls and creeks.
They supply welly boots as there are some leeches about and it gets muddy after the rain. It is a great way of working up an appetite for either a BBQ feast or a picnic hamper available for purchase. If you don’t feel like leaving the retreat for food, the hosts can arrange a picnic, a self cook BBQ, pizza and wine. Alternatively you can bring your own supplies and there is a full fridge and kitchen to cook and prepare anything you bring.
Overlooking a dam is a daybed in the trees in a secluded section of the property. The retreat can arrange a romantic package including the daybed set up arranged with premium bedding, pillows and blankets, candles, silk rose petals, Belgian chocolates, and chilled sparkling wine. It is a lovely idea to relax and reconnect with your partner.
A two night stay here was just the right amount of time to fully relax, slow down and explore the property. The property is so beautiful and there is plenty to do that we never felt the need to leave it. It is an ideal location to disconnect and reconnect with loved ones and arrive back home feeling truly refreshed and well rested.
